• I have a memberhsip site and my “Lost Password” page is not working properly

Basically when you go to the “lost password” page, you enter your nickname and press the button, the email with instructions comes to your email, but when you click the link in the email message, you get this error:

Catchable fatal error: Object of class WP_Error could not be converted to string in /home/xxx/public_html/xxx.net/wp-content/plugins/membership/app/view/shortcode/class-ms-view-shortcode-login.php on line 510

And people can’t get their accounts back without my manual help, what’s wrong with that?

    Hey there fruttisek,

    How are you doing today?

I’ve been testing this on my end using the latest versions of Membership 2 and WP and I couldn’t recreate the issue.

Both on default WP lost password page and on Membership 2 Account page where you can reset password I was able to receive the email without any issues.

    – default WP reset https://screencast.com/t/Y39RnCAi3p
    – Membership 2 Account page reset https://screencast.com/t/gfFAMwmSZW

Which version of the plugin are you using?

    Best regards,
    Bojan

    Plugin Version: Version 4.0.0.5

I’m using other plugins such as M2 – Custom registration form and Profile Builder

    What could be the reason?

    Hey again fruttisek,

It’s possible that this is caused by a plugin/theme conflict.

In order to test for conflicts please try using default WordPress theme like Twenty Fifteen and deactivating all other plugins as displayed in the following flowchart to know which theme/plugin is conflicting if any.

    Hey there Marquisdefunk,

I couldn’t recreate this on my sandbox site which means this is most likely a conflict with another plugin or a theme. Did you test for conflicts as suggested above?

    Best regards,
    Bojan

    I have the same problem:
When I use a link to reset your password, an error message appears:

Catchable fatal error: Object of class WP_Error could not be converted to string in /home/users/xyz/public_html/e-smartprint.eu/wp-content/plugins/membership/app/view/shortcode/class-ms-view-shortcode-login.php on line 510

I turned off the other plugins and still have this message.
How do I reset the password?

    Hey there Wojtek Kotowski,

    Hi Membership team,

    Again the same problem,
The reset password link doesn’t work correctly it opens registration page.
I am using the version 4.0.0.7
    Should I update it too?

    Thanks,

    Hi Gohar,

Please update your plugin to latest version, currently 4.0.1.2 and that should take care of this issue.

    Cheers,
    Predrag

    Thanks For reply

I will not lose any data, yes?
Also I have changed some styles to make suitable to my website, will I lose it? And using different pages for example for thank you, or registration part

    Thanks,
    Gohar

    Hi Gohar,

Update will only rewrite plugin files, it will not change your settings saved in database, so if you didn’t make any changes to plugin files and your styles are added by a plugin or theme custom styling field those will not be affected as well.
