• My experience with this company is not so great. I got the original Membership Pro by subscribing to their website. I only subscribed for a month but I was able to keep the plugin. But when there are WordPress updates it tends to break a lot of things in the plugin so you get a bunch of bugs. So you have to subscribe again to get support or to be able to download the updated version of the plugin…

I wish we could just buy the plugin once and receive all updates free. Its ridiculous how they have it set up. When I buy a plugin or theme from Themeforest, if they release a new version, then guess what, we are able to download it since we paid for the theme already. But here, they seem a bit too greedy. I get that the subscription covers support and extra stuff, but I dont need support, I just want one plugin where I can download future updates and I dont want to be paying monthly for a plugin, thats ridiculous…

Look for alternatives, Codecanyon has many great plugins and they wont be charging you monthly for updates.

  • Hey there chuyqwerty,

First of all thank you for taking time to write a review, we really do appreciate any feedback given regardless of it being positive or negative.

Regarding old version of Membership plugin being better I have to disagree on that one, Membership 2 is much faster and it has better protection logic and more protection rules options not to mention developer documentation that can be very useful for more experienced users. It also has much better UI so setting up protection rules is much easier for newcomers.

Related to WPMU DEV membership, all our sign-up plans are subscription based and with that we really try to offer something more then just plugin updates. I can completely understand that you dislike our membership system as you don’t need support but in my opinion this shouldn’t reflect the plugin rating as you’re rating both premium/free version of the plugin and not our premium service.

Codecanyon has many great plugins and they wont be charging you monthly for updates.

While this is true it’s highly unlikely that you’ll get the same support or the same amount of attention for any WordPress related issues as you can get with WPMU DEV and also other things that we offer (such as live chat, coding assistance from our SLS staff and so on) so it is just a matter of perspective and your needs as a member.

Thanks again for your feedback, it’s appreciated ??

    Have a great day!

    Cheers,
    Bojan

Thanks for your reply. The thing I really hated was the fact that we don’t get updates of the plug-ins we buy unless we paying monthly. Some of us don’t need support, although it is a great option for those that do. But I felt I was screwed over when a WordPress update broke your plugin and I was not entitled to an upgrade. I had to go and rebuy it… I really think you guys should add the option to flat out buy it without support and give those customers any future updates.

The monthly support package is great if you’re a big company but if you are small, you can’t afford to be paying monthly for a plug-in that I don’t need support on, I just need it to work the way it is advertised to work, and to not be out of luck when when WordPress rolls out updates that make your plugin stop working…

But anyway, thanks for the reply. That’s just my 2 cents.

    Hey again chuyqwerty,

I understand and thank you for responding as well. I’ll definitely pass on your feedback to our marketing team ??

    Have a great day!

    Cheers,
    Bojan
