Members Only Search Bar

    Hi,

    I’m using BuddyPress, and the Membership plugin, and I am trying to set it up where unregistered users cannot use the search bar on the website until they have registered or logged in.

    I figured out how to hide the page tabs, but the search bar is an easy backdoor to see those pages I’ve hidden from those “strangers.”

    Any help or direction would be great. Please take the time to read it slowly, as I’ve noticed a lot of posts are people just throwing information around, saying things are solved, and closing threads before things are actually figured out. Keep this open until I figure it out, please.

    Only you and the mods have the power to close a thread. No one else.

    I’m not familiar with buddypress, or the membership plugin, but one solution would be to write a function to only display the search bar if the user is registered.

    Have you done a thorough search of the available plugins for something that would privatize your search area?

    [Aside: I refuse to use sites which disallow unregistered people to search – how is one supposed to know if anything on a site might be helpful if one cannot search?]

    @josh I’m not too uber keen on writing code… I just know how to find help, generally.

    @jaelli Membership is the plugin that does exactly what I need, but as I said it only HIDES the pages as tabs, but you can still search for stuff on the site and view members pages (including information that should be only available to members, such as other members external contact information.

    I also understand that people don’t like to register all of the time for sites, but this site is not used for troubleshooting, or any of that, so the design of the website will have no functionality for someone who doesn’t need it.

    What I’m asking is if it’s POSSIBLE, if not, then I’ll just remove the external contact link from my member’s profiles and make all contact contained within the membership and website, and allow searching.

    Any HELP anyone? lol
