• I posted this in the plugins forum too, but haven’t gotten any help yet, so I thought I’d post here.

I’m building a site for a friend and he just now asked me if we can make some of the pages not show up in the Main Nav, but instead have access to them through a login page for people to sign up or into to get to the pages.

For example, the top nav would be Home, Books, Videos, Blog, Contact, Members Only. Once you click on the Members Only, it would take you to a login/sign up page. Once logged in, the visitor would be presented with 3 new pages, with a new side nav bar to navigate between them. This way they still have access to the rest of the site. And when they do go back to the public side of the site, they can just click on the Members Only link to get back to the secured pages without having to log back in. I may also want to incorporate the member login in a sidebar on one of the public pages.

Is this asking too much or is there something out there for this?

Thanks in advance and I hope this isn’t too confusing.

I have done something similar, I used the following 3 plugins. Takes a little work.

    Nav Menu Roles
    Page Security & Membership
    Peter’s Login Redirect

To explain a little further, I’m not trying to hide any menu items. It’s just that 1 menu item (Members Only) will take the visitor to either the Login/Signup page or, if logged in, straight to the first page of the 3 member pages. Those 3 pages will have their specific menu items in a secondary nav menu in the sidebar. This is not for people that are signed into the sites backend/dashboard.

Would what you’re talking about help with this situation, questas?

Or has anyone else had the best luck with any other plugins?

Yes it will. I have a menu item which is login, that changes to portfolio when logged in complete with a sub menu.

Thanks questas. I’m going to give this a shot.

In the meantime, if anyone else has other more simple suggestions, please comment.

Okay. I am trying these plugins out, but am getting a little confused. Can you explain the process to me in further detail based on my needs.

    They are:
? I want a login page that has a form to fill out to become a member consisting of username, password, name, email address, etc. and a form for logging in if you are already a user. Do I just create a page with forms on it? Or will one of these plugins create the forms automatically?

? Once logged in, I want the member to be redirected to the first sub page of the member area.

? Once logged out, I want the member to be redirected to the home page.

? That being said, where/how will they log out?

Hopefully this is not too much to ask. I just don’t understand the process you went through with these plugins.

    Thanks
