    Hello,
I am looking to have a ‘members only’ section on my website (velocitywinterguard.com). Ideally, it would be a password protected category where a user would click on the members only category link and be prompted with a user name/password field (or something similar) to gain access.

I don’t want to deal with permissions depending on users that are/aren’t registered as we won’t have a lot of different users. I would have a single set user name and password that would allow the category to be viewed.

I also looked at the ‘User Login Widget’ which would be perfect because I can create a ‘member’ user that will allow all categories to be viewed (including the ‘members only’ category). The only problem is – after I installed the widget on the side bar, none of the content was visible until a user logged in. Ideally I would like the ‘public’ content visible and if the user logged in, they could see the additional ‘members only’ category.

    Thanks!

I am looking to do the same thing. I would think that other people are doing this so I am wondering what is taking so long for some expert to reply. Is this general the type of responsiveness I should expect from this forum?

Same — why isnt this feature built in??

Same. Nobody has responded to this yet??
I have found a couple plug ins for forcing a page log in, but that’s useless to me. If anyone has a resolution let me know.

I this the wrong place for this message? Do we need to post this question somewhere else? All questions and no answers. I am a java programmer and I can write my own log in for this private section of the site but how do I integrate into wordpress to make it seamless? Is there documentation on there user module and authentication technique? Book, PDF or site on the internals of wordpress?

I’m looking for something along the same lines. I’ve checked out the Members Only tweak, but that’s not what I’m looking for. I want to show viewers what the content is, but when they try to click on it, access is restricted unless they are signed in as a user.

Maybe this tweak is what I need (and some of you as well), but I’m not great with adding code.

Hey, I was looking through some other topics and found this forum.

I think it’ll help solve all our problems.
