We have been trying to replicate the issue under various test scenarios, but without any success. The workflow seems to be working as expected. This may mean that the issue is most likely related to one or more of local environment factors.

another problem is when I choose on group email notification and choose approve/disapprove email and click save nothing gets saved

We Did some further analysis on your site and noticed that you seem to be using a different plugin for registration and login workflows. To better assist you, could you please clarify the exact plugin you are using or if you have customizations you have in place? Reference screenshot attached here: registration.png

It’s possible that a specific parameter from these modifications is affecting the functionality and causing this count display issue.
