Sorry to bother you guys but I am at my wit’s end.

I am not a professional web designer, just an ordinary person trying to have a craft-related blog.

I switched themes today, to a professional one I bought.

Now I can not upload media. I get this message:

“HeaderImageIcon.png” has failed to upload due to an error
The uploaded file could not be moved to D:\Hosting\9251946\html\website\blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/04.”

I have no idea what that means. I was able to upload images normally yesterday. i have tried going back to the original theme, but get the same error. If I try to upload via the other method (browser uploader?) then it says “Error saving media attachment.”

The only thing I can think of that may have changed the situation is my website host (GoDaddy) did some sort of update yesterday which resulted in my hosting having a new IP reference. Could that be relevant?

I also noticed that I was not able to upload/install the new theme in the usual way, ie just uploading the zip into WordPress, it kept failing. So I manually dumped the theme contents into the themes folder with Filezilla, and that seemed to solve the issue. Seems possible that is connected.

I would really appreciate any advice, preferably in very simple idiot-proof English, I am sadly very ignorant of all this stuff. My website is now a year old and I would hate to lose all my work ??

I saw a couple of posts on these forums that talk about setting the permissions of the wp-content folder to 777, or 766.

I found these instructions for how to do this – https://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/how-to-change-file-permissions-using-filezilla-on-.html

I follow these, and set the folder permissions to 777

Filezilla gives a message of –
    Command: SITE CHMOD 777 wp-content
Response: 500 ‘SITE CHMOD 777 wp-content’: command not understood

Does that mean I am doing something wrong? Surely even I can type a number in a box ??

I used GoDaddy’s own file manager to reset the permissions on the wp-content folder to allow writing.

And thankfully this seems to have worked.

I have no idea what caused it, or why, but just very grateful I can carry on with my blog.
