Media URLs for root site.

Greetings,

I noticed that when inserting media on sub sites the URL scheme is https://mysite.com/files/filename.ext but on the root site it adds it as https://mysite.com/wp-content/blogs.dir/1/files/filename.ext

Is this a bug or a known thing?

Any way to get the root site to exclude /wp-content/blogs.dir/1/ and just use /files/ like sub sites?
