• Ever since I re-installed the latest version of Word Press I try to use the media uploader to insert an image I get the same error message:
“An error occurred in the upload. Please try again later.”

When I check via ftp, the image appear to be uploading to the proper folder. I’ve tried deactivating all plugins and activating the default twenty twelve theme. I’ve reset the cache and tried with other browsers with no success. “Insert from URL” works just fine if I ftp the image manually.

This is the web site, hosted by Dreamhost:

    Anything ideas or advice?

  • Check the upload folder’s file permissions:

I’ve had the permissions set at 755 for the “uploads” folder. Should it be something else?

Try disabling all plugins. Maybe there is a conflict.

The images upload but the thumbnails are not being created?

Can you please open a ticket and ask for ImageMagick to be checked on your server?

I’ve tried with plugins disabled and default theme to no effect.

Images upload and it creates thumbnails, but doesn’t register that anything is in the Media Library.

I will ask to have ImageMagixk checked, thanks.

Dreamhost doesn’t see any Image Magick problems.

“I’ve checked ImageMagick and it’s installed and working perfectly fine. I
also looked at the folder permissions for your wp-content/uploads
directory and the directories below it and they’re all fine. I can’t find
any server-related issue for the upload issue. ”

That’s good. And it’s not. I wish these things were easy… Does it work if you upload a very small image?

    Size doesn’t seem to matter.

I can access the media library only under “Media” in the dashboard, but it doesn’t work when trying to create a post and will not add media or “insert into post” when trying to create a post.

Eric, I’m going to reply in your ticket because I’d like to log in and see if I can reproduce this. That’s starting to sound like a really hinky JS conflict.

Has anyone found a fix for this?

I am running latest version of WP and media uploader stopped working after migrating the site from windows to linux. The error I am getting is that it can’t find the /tmp folder.

aaronhester7 – Are you on DreamHost as well? If not, please make a new topic.

If you ARE, then check in your wp-config.php and see if you’re defining a tmp dir anywhere. You should be able to safely remove that call on DreamHost. I cannot speak for other hosts.
