Media Mess

One thing I notice, that within a few weeks my media library is a mess. I even have several copies of the same image in the library.

For example: I will have the same image listed 3 times. Each image attached to the same file. Why? There should only be 1 image attached to the file.

I wanted to delete the media that wasn’t attached,, but my problem is how do I know which images in the media library are being used and which are not?

It is especially troubling when I have 4 or 5 copies of the same image and they all say they are attached the same file — I want to keep the one that is being used and delete the rest.

I thought there might be some kind of plugin to help me with this, but found none.

Any recommendation would be appreciated.
