Media Library Question

I have an image saved in the Media Library of a site. I would like to also use that image on another site but don’t have the original image any longer. I am trying to copy the image to my desktop. When I save to the desktop the correct image is saved but its file name and file size has changed. The file size is much smaller and I can’t use it. What might be causing this? Thanks.
