• I’ve just installed WordPress 3.6 on the Bell host and am just starting a new website in the subdirectory of an existing website. I’ve created a child-theme for the Responsive theme and have added a little bit of text to see what it looks like. I’ve tried to add pictures though and have run into some problems. Any changes to the style.css were just to change font size and spacing.

When adding an image to a page it starts to load then I get an error: “an error occurred in the upload, please try again later”.
I look in the media folder and the picture is there unattached, and I look on my server and it is in the uploaded folder (three versions of the same picture in different sizes). I am able to use HTML to put it in the text on the page by referring to the upload folder directly which is tedious and from what I’ve read complicates things.

If I try to choose a custom header, the media library screen comes up blank as though there are no pictures in my library.
If I try and upload another picture I get the error: “an error occurred, try again later”
Because of this error I am also unable to set the featured image.

If I go to the Media Library tab, the pictures are there but I can’t attach them to anything
In the Media library I can add new pictures and edit them no problem

    I’ve tried the following:

    • updated automatically…. didn’t work
    • Updated manually by deleting all files and folders except wp-content …. didn’t work
    • added define(‘CONCATENATE_SCRIPTS’,false); to the wp-config.php file …. didn’t work so I changed it back
    • file permissions for the upload folder are 700
    • I’ve got all plugins deactivated – nothing started really because I’m just begining the website
    • Bowser caches empty …. didn’t work
    • I’ve tried the 2012 and 2013 themes … same problem on all other themes
    • I’ve tried Firefox, Chrome and IE

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I’ve wasted so much time on this.
    Thanks

I’ve been playing with Instant WordPress on my laptop so I know what it’s supposed to look like when you add a header or put an image into a page.
    …… help..

What happens when you use the original, unedited, parent theme?

Same problem. I click on the “Add Media” button, the Insert Media screen pops up, but it’s blank as though there were no images in the library, even though I know they are there.

Can we see the site using the default Twenty Thirteen theme with all plugins deactivated?

Try checking your site’s error logs for messages. Your hosts should be able to help you in accessing your site’s error logs.

I’ll contact Bell and see what they say. Thanks.

I have this same issue. I’ve been getting this error since upgrading to 3.6 on my self-hosted website. I cannot add pictures from within a new post or page. When clicking Add Media, the screen comes up but not pictures are shown. All headers on the dashboard also display an error and every page in the backend shows the same error. Here is the error:

Warning: call_user_func_array() expects parameter 1 to be a valid callback, function ‘regis_options’ not found or invalid function name in /home/angeleyz/public_html/fitstronglean.com/wp-includes/plugin.php on line 406

I have tried disabling and reinstalling plugins and even reinstalling 3.6. Nothing works. ??

@angeleyz: As per the Forum Welcome, please post your own topic. Posting in an existing topic prevents us from being able to track issues by topic. Added to which, your problem – despite any similarity in symptoms – is likely to be completely different.

I contacted Bell and he said error logs would show nothing of interest. He gave me a copy of version 3.4.1 and everything seems to be working as expected so far- no problems with importing media or creating headers. I wonder if that means I should never update?

He gave me a copy of version 3.4.1

Please don’t tell me that you’re now running WordPress 3.4.1? If so, that was an incredibly stupid thing for your hosts to suggest. Were you aware that your site is currently running a very real risk of being hacked?

What’s my alternative if I can’t get 3.6 to work? I’ve tried everything else.

I’m running WordPress 3.6 on at least 15 sites without the slightest problem. So are the vast majority of WordPress 3.6’s 1 million+ other users. Ask your hosts for a copy of your error logs.

I was having this same issue and the fix turned out to be a popup blocker browser extension. The popup blocker was blocking javascript code that blocked adding images (but everything else in WordPress worked ironically).

After adding an exception to the popup blocker I’m able to add images in WordPress 3.6.1 without issue.

I solved this problem this way

    Go into
    – settings, permalinks
    Delete “optional” – Category base
    (ex.media.yourdomainname.com) *Delete this
If you leave these blank the defaults will be used.
    – Delete this area and leave it blank.
    – Save changes

All my photos are back, and I can use the mediauploader again.
