    Hi,

I have a WP 4.5.3 install that doesn’t seem to generate any variations of an uploaded image for use in the srcset img tag. It just stores the single image I uploaded.

I upload image files via the Add Media button from the Page editor then Select Files from there.

I’ve checked the theme uploads folder (…./uploads/YYYY/MM/…) and unlike another installations I have which generate a whole set of various size images each time I upload an image and then produces a srcset for use in the img tag this particular installation does not do this. It just uploads the image and when inserted on a page doesn’t create any srcset at all.

Everything I’ve read on the support forums and elsewhere says WP since 4.4 generates a srcset automatically. Somehow this one isn’t. Is there a setting I have to enable or anyone know what I might be doing wrong?

Any pointers/ideas very welcome. Thanks for your help in advance.

How are you hosting? Usually, the failure to generate the various image sizes is related to missing gd or imagemagick software and/or a missing php-gd library.

Hi thanks for quick reply – for the moment I’m hosting locally (on a Mac) I have another local install (on a PC) that works fine in this respect.

I’m using a standard ampps stack install on both machines if that helps and as far as I can tell WP is configured the same on both.

This is prior to pushing to a test server that is hosted by an ISP using a similar config.

    Does that help?

make sure php-gd and gd are installed on the mac inside xampp

Ok thanks that seems to have fixed it.

The php-gd service was commented out in php.ini not sure why that would be disabled by default for such a core feature (on mac at least).

But hey its working now so thanks very much for your help.
