    Hi,

I wanted to confirm if it’s possible to upload animated webp? I’m currently testing formats for woocommerce and I get the error “The server cannot process the image. This can happen if the server is busy or does not have enough resources to complete the task. Uploading a smaller image may help. Suggested maximum size is 2560 pixels when trying to test said file.

The file is 300*300px and over 100kb. curios as to why it isn’t any explanation is appreciated, thank in advance!

I’ve an animated .webp image on my site which I’ve uploaded and utilized without any issue. It’s somewhat comparable to yours, 400px square, but only 36KB. Byte size less than a few MB shouldn’t be an issue. The only enforcement WP really does is confirm file extension correlates with MIME type. If your file is not conveying proper size or MIME information, that could cause issues.

Have you tried uploading a different animated .webp image? Or non-animated, I don’t see animation being relevant.

It is possible for your theme or plugins to alter what images WP deems acceptable. You could try deactivating plugins and switching themes as a test, but I suspect the issue lies with your server. It is likely overloaded in some manner. Check your server’s resource utilization to see if anything is being stressed such as available memory, CPU utilization, etc.

The animated .webp image I tested with was just one that I found online that’s already .webp format. Personally I don’t use animated images, so I have never converted one to .webp. My usual image editor (GIMP) supports animated .webp, so I’d probably open the source animation there, then export it as a .webp file. I suspect there are a number of online converters you could use.
