Media Library management

i’m finding that the media library is very nonfunctional in 2.5. I’ve got a few questions about it:

is there a way to change the category of an attachment post so that it isn’t in some random category?

is there a way to actually list the media in the media library in such a way that it acts like a category in itself? (and also be found by search engines)

i also get some stupid “HTTP Error” when i try to upload an image, which is completely besides the point of actually managing the Media Library, but still a problem anyway.
