I have a non-blog WP site installed and have modified the Author role to edit Pages only (no Posts).

Since doing this, the user is unable to Modify, or Delete anthing in the Media library. The user can Add Media, however, WP gets stuck in “Crunching” mode (this does not happen with my admin user). Clicking the Media menu item again (as the user) shows the media did upload, however, the user cannot edit or delete it after this (only view).

What setting will allow teh user to Add, Modify, Delete media in a non-blog WP installation?

    Best Regards,
    Dennis Hall

    Hi Dennis,

‘edit_posts’ is a key capability which user should have in order WordPress permits him to add, edit items at media library. ‘delete_posts’ serves to permit the deletion of media items.

    Vladimir.

    This had me beat too.

Tried all sorts of options including making a copy of the Admin role and trying to fix it that way.

Because I had no need for Editors to make posts I had all those boxes unticked.

Thought I’d browse the forum to see if anyone else had the same problem and found this post. Sometimes I amaze myself!

Thanks for such a useful plugin and sister plugin, “View Own Post Media Only”. They enable me to do what I had hoped with WP.

Me too. I had a lot of things unticked that I had no idea were related to the media library. This helped a lot, thanks!

In regard to interacting with the Media Library in the explanation above: can either “edit_posts” or “edit_pages” (and likewise: “delete_posts” or “delete_pages”) be used to provide interaction with the Media Library.

The reason I ask is that I am trying to create a configuration where a user role can only edit/delete/publish PAGES and have no admin access to POSTS.
