• I’ve managed to rebuild the majority of my site, just. As I am a photographer and looking to create an image intensive Blog I am simply stumped with regards to the performance, or lack thereof, of the Media Library.

This all started after upgrading to 4.4.2. Key points are:
30sec++ to load just the Media Pane
Unresponsive Error message with the option to kill or wait
30sec delay after selecting image for it to display in single pane
30sec+ to revert back to the Media Library
Unable to load more than 300MB worth of imagery as that renders the site unnavigable.

Outside of the media library I have regular navigation speeds, I’m on Fiber Optic in Japan. Never had issues prior to this.

Anyone else with this kind of similar issue? Got it resolved??

    Cheers,
    Mark

  • Contact your Hosting provider .i think this may be due to them also

Have done so but they can’t seem to be able to shed any light on the issue. Wondering of it is still something bugged in 4.4.2

    Here’s a video I created that clearly shows the issue;

    Update;
I changed Theme, disabled all PlugIn’s and the issue persists. I Reinstated the previous theme, ran a Thumbnail Regeneration then dumped the W3 Cache, problem persists. HostGator Support have no answers, the Support for the main Theme and PlugIn that I use have no answers. It seems no-one here has had the same issue, my additional comments added to this thread continue to be removed for whatever reason.

All I want is to know what WordPress are doing about what seems to be an issue with the Media Library in this case. It logically cannot be anything else.

    Cheers,

@seawildearth For this to be an issue with Media Library, you’d have to see many many more users facing this. Not just you.

Seeing as it’s a loading issue, it’s almost always, plugin, theme or hosting specific.

I just actually deployed a clean 4.4.2 to build a client’s site and it looks great ??

By the way, I didn’t moderate your earlier post but that’s a lot of attitude to be putting out against an organisation that makes free software and provides free support made up of volunteers that use their free time to run the organisation don’t you think?

I’ve tried a complete deactivation of all plugins and also changed the Theme, dumped all Caches and still this persists? I can’t see it being a hosting issue as we’re talking about data usage thus far of under 600MB? I’ll take your word for it as I’m sure you know a heck of a lot more about this than I.

Re; my previous post. Call it frustration due to lost earnings, there was no profanity involved and I’m sure people have posted, and seen, a lot worse. I take it you saw it before it was removed?

@seawildearth what you’re seeing here is almost definitely not a WordPress issue.

Does it do the same on a different browser? Because it seems to me that JavaScript based functions are simply taking a much longer time to evaluate.

It’s not about loading speed even, or about your data file size. The Media Library doesn’t even load the full image by default, instead it loads thumbnails.

I’d suggest you use your browser’s Inspector too, and turn on Console for it. See if there are any JavaScript errors.

No matter your reasons, and trust me I know how frustrating things can be when it doesn’t work. But that does not give you a free pass to vent your frustration on others. Whether or not people have posted worse is besides the point, do you really want to be lumped in with them?

I will look into the whole JavaScript side of things and let you know.

I don’t have a clue about looking into this level of a website, about understanding Java etc. I’m looking at a console with lots of figures and code with no clue as to what it means or what it is I’m supposed to be looking at / for.

    Hence the frustration.

Update; Just tried the site in Firefox as I generally use Chrome and the performance is much better. I would be over the moon if it wasn’t for the fact that now the Media Library fails to show all the images in the Library, instead the library is filled with intermitted holders where the imagery should be in both Grid and List view. Some Images upload no worries whilst others seem to upload but fail to display.

All of my web activity is on Chrome though so now it would be a case pf switching between Chrome and Firefox to maintain my website and engaging with my normal daily online routine when in the office?

There are 2 buttons in the Media Library to switch between Grid and List view.

Can you try the List View and see if it’s better?

This is most definitely a WordPress issue. I have had the software engineers from the company that make my Theme and Main PlugIns to support the eCommerce options within that theme have access to my Servers at HostGator and the backend of my site.

They cannot find the issue with their Theme or Directory structure within the Server so have suggested a complete reinstallation of WordPress and reboot my site from a backup.

    This really is bizarre.

The issue persists whether I am in Grid or List options as asked.

To me the problem seems to be related with the resource limits in your hosting account.
All hosting accounts have NPROC limit and memory. I would suggest to contact the hosting company and to check the resources if any limit is being exceeded and what is the CPU load when you access the media library. Also they might have the timeout limit set low in apache for all php process, when a process take too much time to finish or is misbehaving, Apache will kill the process to prevent the overload of the server.

    Try what @apocaliptic said

    And also

Try downloading WordPress again, access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel, and delete then replace your copies of everything on the server except the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory with fresh copies from the download. This will effectively replace all of your core files without damaging your content and settings.

Some uploaders tend to be unreliable when overwriting files, so don’t forget to delete the original files before replacing them.

I have been in touch with the Host Gator support engineers who have told me that they cannot replicate this issue?

I am not comfortable carrying out the instructions you mention. As I said my frustration comes from that personal inability and understanding mixed with the fact that such lofty engineers seem stumped and further confounded with the fact that this seems not to be effecting other WordPress users?
