I have the media image sizes set as
    large – 600×600
    Medium – 300×300
    Thumbnail – 150×150

I uploaded a 600×600 image and when going to the WP Retina 2x Dashboard
the thumbnail and medium have a green tick but the large has the yellow triangel with a 1200×1200 recommended size

Why is it doubling the size of the large image size I have set?
Should I be altering the media image sizes?

Further, I dont understand why it would want to double the size of the uploaded image and therefor distort it, especially when you say do not use the full size image directly.

Shouldn’t you upload the retina image making it the ‘Large image and the other sizes are generated from it?

    Hey Frank,

Oooops, I think you got confused :p

You should upload an image bigger than 1200×1200, as the plugin asks. You can re-upload an image by drag & drop into the dashboard (on the right file, of course). WordPress and the plugin will immediately create all the required images nicely.

It would not. That is why a bigger image is required.

Yes, because if you use the full-size image directly in the code, the plugin will never be able to find a retina image, as it will not be possible to create one (like you said, it would be distorted).

If it is not clear, you should have a look at how Retina works. I did a tutorial myself here: https://www.totorotimes.com/news/retina-display-wordpress-plugin/
