• I’d like to have left/right navigation buttons and an exit button when an image is clicked on on the webpage, rather than having to use the browser back button.

Having done some searching around I think it might involve the use of a plug-in.

Could someone confirm if this is a plug-in and recommend or can it be done with some clever css scripting?

    Thank you

  • When you insert an image in the editor, you can choose if it is linked to the media file or the attachment page, or not at all.
The attachment page shows the media file, depending on the theme’s style.
The media file is a direct link to the image and WordPress is not involved.

One way to handle it is to always link to the media file, and use a plugin like Shutter Reloaded or Thickbox Plus, which has a script to show linked files in an overlay, including arrows to the next and previous images. This works well because no changes are needed in the content or theme.

After a few hours of trial and error i finally got working what i needed to… I found a plugin called Simple Lightbox. As you recommended, i use the link to media option.. So now when i open the image i get the left/right arrows etc.

    Getting there slowly!
