• hello,

i have seen several similar topics, but none that solved my issue. basically, i can upload files fine using the media manager, but those images show up as broken link images in both the media manager and in posts. i have confirmed file/directory permissions in /wp-content/uploads. i have verified that the images are in fact uploaded and the different sized images (eg thumbnails) are in fact created. i have tried unchecking (and rechecking) “organize my uploads into folders…”. when i try to access one of the uploaded images directly using its url (eg, https://mysite.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/test.jpg) i get a wordpress “page not found”. even though that file does indeed exist.

one thing i find interesting is that in wp-admin/options-media.php, i see no field to specify the base directory for uploads. i am pretty sure there used to be a field for that, maybe even in another settings page. but i can’t find it anywhere now.

i have not been able to ssh into my server to verify the .htaccess file(s), and as soon as my host fixes that i will verify that as well.

    any thoughts greatly appreciated.

one more thing i forgot to mention (i think someone else had this experience too):

when in the media library in admin, i see the broken image icon for the image. i click on the image, and the “attachment details” page shows the broken image icon. but when i click on the “edit image” button on the attachment details page, i see the image fine. bizarre.

i think someone else had this experience too

If so, there would be many results here when searched for.

yes, and i mentioned that i had seen several similar topics, which resulted from just such a search. as i also mentioned, nothing in those topics helped resolve my particular issue.

for now, i am having the users upload images via ftp and link to them explicitly in their posts, meaning the images are not managed by wordpress in the media library.
