This plugin is recommended in my (paid) MC account; however reviews are so poor that I’ve installed it with considerable trepidation.

I’ve had WC installed and running for 6+- months with MailPoet and am trying get everything moved to MC. I installed the plug and went through the setup. The list to which I have connected the plugin has four Groups, one of which is Subscribers. The WC process sells the subscription and I want to automatically add new subscribers to the Subscriber group. Payment is their opt-in and no additional confirmation is required. I can find no way to do this with the plugin

    * No way to limit list additions to Subscriber Group
    * No way to avoid the optin confirmation

I’ve installed and completed setup but I’m beginning to think that the plugin is not up to my requirements?

  • Hey there @ taastrategies

Thanks for your post. I can certainly understand the concern that comes with trying out a new integration and would be glad to help clarify these questions for you.

If someone joins the MailChimp list as a result of purchasing a product, there is not a way to automatically sort them into a specific group. That being said, I can certainly pass that feedback along to our team.

Regarding optin confirmation, if a customer makes a purchase from the store and clicks the “Subscribe to Newsletter” checkbox on the Checkout page, then they will be immediately added to the list without any requirement for additional confirmation to join the list.

That being said, if you are seeing subscribers receive a confirmation email, would you mind clarifying the specific steps being taken leading up to receiving that email? This will help us narrow down what specifically is causing that to happen.

Thanks in advance for this clarification. Don’t hesitate to let us know if you have any additional questions.

    Thanks,

Thank you for the quick response.

I have implemented groups to provide classification of a single email list while providing unified email address management and duplicate checking.

In this case, a Subscriber has already paid to receive updates from a restricted campaign. There is no option (checkbox) to subscribe because the act of making payment completes the subscription process. I would be afraid that if they have to check a box that they might not and as a result, not receive their updates. Thus, I need the ability to automatically apply a Group and the ability to subscribe w/o a check box.

OOH, a blog Follower goes through the double opt-in process and I have code in my embedded email form to automatically check the Follower group.

    Hey @taastrategies,

Those are definitely valid concerns. If an existing MailChimp subscriber completes a purchase from the store without selecting the “Subscribe to newsletter” checkbox, then that will not remove them as a subscriber from the MailChimp list. It will simply update that MailChimp List Subscriber’s purchase activity with the latest purchases and will not have an effect on their subscription status.

That said, customers who are not already on the MailChimp List will need to select that checkbox in order to be subscribed to the list after making a purchase.

As for Groups, I see how it would be helpful to automatically apply Group settings to purchased customers, but I’m afraid that the integration does not sync any Group information over at all. I know this isn’t quite ideal and will be sure that your feedback is recorded so we can track this for future updates to the MailChimp For WooCommerce integration.

If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to let us know.

    Thank you,
    Malachite
