    Hi,

I have a question about location blocking. In the settings it says…

Ban countries you don’t expect/want traffic from to protect your site from unwanted hackers and bots in a specific location.

Would this block them from trying to access the admin area or the whole site (ie. the frontend)? Also, would this affect search bots?

    Thanks
    Ash

    Hi @ashbryant

I hope you are doing good today.

Would this block them from trying to access the admin area or the whole site

Locations feature covers a whole domain, including backend and frontend.

Also, would this affect search bots?

Google, Bing, or Yahoo provide ways to check if that IP is real or not, so we whitelist those by default, but not for the others. For those other bots there no way to know do they are bots or just fake.

    Also according to Google support
    https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/6144055?hl=en

As we have always recommended, when Googlebot appears to come from a certain country, treat it like you would treat any other user from that country. This means that if you block USA-based users from accessing your content, but allow visitors from Australia to see it, your server should block a Googlebot that appears to be coming from the USA, but allow access to a Googlebot that appears to come from Australia.

we will have in future a feature to blocklist/allowlist User Agents.

    Kind Regards,
    Kris
