Does anyone happen to know if WordPress can support mass amounts of registered users?

Like, 40,000+ people being registered (not necessarily that many using the system at once).

To clarify, I don’t mean users with high level permissions, just basic registrants who would have the ability to view the site / comment.

Thank you very much for any replies!

  • If your server can handle that load… I dunno that WP much cares.

But I gotta ask – why so many users?

Also note you don’t have to necessarily be registered to view or comment on a WordPress site if it’s configured that way…

    And while we’re also noting… ??

If spam is the issue, you’ll probably be better off with Spam Karma 2 or Akismet. Using one of those with Bad Behavior is a pretty good solution.

Thanks very much, to both of you.

I’m going to try and use WordPress as a replacement CMS for a client of mine. We had him set up on eZ Publish but that system is so finicky and riddled with problems (and really probably for someone with ALOT more knowledge than I have).

So he has somewhere around 40,000 subscribers to his newsletter, so if they all register, I’m just hoping it’ll hold up.

Of course I plan to try and test it out before hand but it’ll be impossible to load up that many test user accounts…

My guess is you’d probably be ok – but I hope you’ve got a decent server. The server my wordpress install is running on struggles – we’ve got around 3000 articles and get about 50,000 hits a week.

Thanks to all who’ve replied – we’re running strong at around 36,000 users now, have been doing so for the past several months, and little to no hitches.

    WordPress = woohoo!

    I think we have a new t-shirt. :)

Thanks for the update. Reporting of real world experiences help all of us know just what WordPress really can do.

    interesting post =)

i was just thinking about setting up a site that’d require alot of users to sign up too.

clicknathan do you mind pointing me to your site? i’d love to see how you’re making use of wp for your task.

    have a great week guys.
