Maximum No of Files in Media Library

I am placing together a site that when finished will have some 16,000 image files in it. I am wondering if the Media Library likely to have any issues with this. On my hard drive, for example, Windows slows down and takes time to search through the amount of picture files in one folder and so I have to group them in multiple smaller folders. Will WordPress have the same issues? Is there any way to create multiple sub-folders within the Media Library?
