    Hello,

I am receiving the following error when I run a WordFence scan on my website:

[JUL 23 09:41:28] Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in /home/……/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wordfence/lib/wordfenceScanner.php on line 404 There has been a critical error on this website.

This is the first time I have seen this error generated from an attempted scan on this site.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can resolve this problem?

    Thank you!

Hi @reedk55, thanks for getting in touch!

Can you do the following so I can get the information I need to help you?

    • Kill the existing scan if it is still running (The “Start New Scan” button turns in to a “Stop” button while the scan is running)
    • Go to your Scan > Scan Options and Scheduling page and locate the “Performance Options”
Set “Maximum execution time for each scan stage” to 20 on the options page
    • Click to “Save Changes”
    • Go to the Tools > Diagnostics page
    • In the “Debugging Options” section check the circle “Enable debugging mode”
    • Click to “Save Changes”.
    • Start a new scan
    • Copy the last 20 lines or so from the Log (click the “Show Log” link) once the scan finishes and paste them in the post.

    Thanks,

    Peter.

    Hi @wfpeter

Thank you for your response. However, now when I try to run the scan, the scan generates a different error from the one I mentioned in the original post. The scan fails and says “Scan Failed
The current scan looks like it has failed. Its last status update was 1 hour 1 minute ago. You may continue to wait in case it resumes or stop and restart the scan. Some sites may need adjustments to run scans reliably.”

How would you like me to proceed?

    Hi @reedk55,

Is that error coming from the log described in the final step of my bullet-points above? I would expect this to highlight more detail around the scan activity around the stop/failure.

You can also send me a diagnostic report to wftest @ wordfence . com. You can find the link to do so at the top of the Wordfence Tools > Diagnostics page. Then click on “Send Report by Email”. Please add your forum username where indicated and respond here after you have sent it.

Note: For the fastest response time, please make sure and add any information or questions directly to this topic and not the email address above unless asked.

    Thanks,

    Peter.
