Maximum Execution – 30 Sec Error

So I have been searching and searching all over the web for answers to solve this fatal error, and finally found that I need to change the php.ini file. Not too technically inclined, I spent hours trying to figure it out.
Come to find out, hostgator.com will not allow my account level to edit the maximum execution file from 30 seconds.
Does that mean I am screwed and cant edit my wordpress site unless I upgrade my hostgator.com account or find an alternative?
