maximum comments display causes fatal error

    I am trying to delete thousands of spam comments I set the no of display comments to the maximum 999 now I get

    Fatal error: Unknown: Cannot use output buffering in output buffering display handlers in Unknown on line 0

    I assume this is a memory error but I cannot get back in to change it to something smaller.

    HELP please!!!
