Matomo version outdated?

Hi there!
I am wondering if the matomo plugin is up to date with the latest matomo version. It seems it is not, as WordPress uses 4.6 while 4.9 is already out. Are there any reasons why updates are held back?https://matomo.org/faq/how-to/how-do-i-know-which-version-of-matomo-i-am-using/
