Math at Login, just curious

I upgraded Jetpack on two sites, two servers as well. Enabled Protect on both.

One has an addition problem on the login page to “prove my humanity” and one does not. Wondering how the need to add that is decided. I ave not found much documentation on this feature, but perhaps I am using wrong terms for it.
