• Hello dear WordPress users,

I recently made a small website for a student architecture project which is https://www.st-g2020.com. I am now trying to put up a small blog which will complement the site.

So I installed WordPress and you can find my not yet linked blog at this adress: https://www.st-g2020.com/blog

I used Template “Modularity Lite 1.3” which looks quite a lot like my original site. In a perfect world it would be exactly identical but I don’t mind a few differences.

    BUT, I got two problems:

1- Language: I want the site to be in French, I got WordPress installed in French. But this template is like half-french. Words like “latest” and “comments” were not translated. In which php files can I acess this to put the correct translation ?

2- Slight modifications to style and PHP files: I am trying to modify a few things to fit even more my original site. Mostly the left sidebar with links. Can I do this only using Index.php and style.css or do I have to modify a bunch of other few things ?

I am good with CSS and HTML but I am quite noobish with PHP.

    Thanks !

  • I couldn’t see a left sidebar in https://www.st-g2020.com/blog, not sure what you mean there. But to answer your question if the sidebar already exists in your theme you should be able to modify what is there in style.css
You only need php if you are creating something new, like a new sidebar that isn’t there yet. If you don’t already use the firebug add-on for firefox I would recommend getting it for modifying themes. There is an inspect button in firebug that you can click on and hover over any element to see what its html is – which is invaluable when trying to figure out what css selectors to use to target that element.

Oh I mean the left sidebar that is present on my original website @ https://www.st-g2020.com. I would like to have a similar one on the blog.

Thanks for Firebug add-on, I’ll check that out.

Any ideas how I could correct the translation issue ?
