I am having no luck getting Mastodon to see my profile at all. All variations come back as nothing was found.

I can access the ActivityPub JSON like this https://authorbuzz.co.uk/author/lordmatt/activitypub/

I cannot see any sign in the HTML that this is linked or indicated.

This is an already active WordPress multisite running BuddyPress I have installed WebFinger as this was suggested to be helpful.

I have not tested it with either multi site nor buddypress to be honest, but I can try to help you debugging it.

The first problem is, that WebFinger does not work on your site: https://webfinger.net/lookup/?resource=lordmatt%40+authorbuzz.co.uk

You can check the site-health. I have implemented some tests with some advice how to fix it.

It’s weird because

https://webfinger.net/lookup/?resource=lordmatt%40authorbuzz.co.uk

says it gets 403 Forbidden but I can manually navigate and get well-formed JSON.

You are right, thats weird! The WebFinger endpoint returns a valid JSON, but WebFinger.net reports an error!

The profile page also sends the correct data!

Do you have a firewall or mod-sec active?

I have this issue too. Also on multisite with the site in question a mapped domain name different from the root domain.

Two multisite users. I hope we can find a mutual fix.

I would have to ask my hosting company if they are doing anything odd or blocking or anything.

Update: I checked the ticket I have open with my host. They are going to check the logs as it should work.

I’m also wondering if WordPress’s REST API could be getting in the way? Although honestly I am still just guessing.

Do you have Jetpack Boost plugin activated? If so, try deactivating it. That solved my problems, now to investigate what’s wrong with it. It seems that it blocked JSON being populated, but need to look more in detail

I also can’t find my site when searching for user name @samabuelsamid@wheelbearings.media. Seems to work fine in webfinger https://webfinger.net/lookup/?resource=samabuelsamid%40wheelbearings.media

I’m having an identical problem, (webfinger looks fine when requested in browser, but webfinger.net reports 403 forbidden), I’m not running multisite or buddypress.

Did anyone find a solution to this?
