I recently updated to the new version of The Events Calendar and the styling is a disaster. The previous version was set to inherit my theme styling. It worked acceptably. Featured images were horrible, but that was the only issue. I could live with it.

With skeleton styles set, the new version overrides my theme styling completely. This is not acceptable, particularly for the single event pages. I have looked at common-skeleton-min.css and can’t see why it should be doing this. I have tried adding a tribe-events.css file to my theme and duplicating my theme’s styling for the appropriate classes, but its implementation is patchy. I can change font-family and size for headings, but only font-family for body text. Heading color change only works for h1. Link styling is still being overridden. My outdented images and captions are truncated to the margins.

Your folder structure is so complex I’m having difficulty navigating it and understanding what is what and I’m getting to the point of despairing. If I could revert to an earlier version I would, but I don’t have it archived. I’ve been through the knowledgebase articles on styling but can’t find anything relating to these issues. Can you please tell me how I can get the plugin to simply use my theme styling, especially for the single events pages, like it did before?

  • Hi there!

Thanks for reaching out. We’re actually working on this bug atm. In the meantime, here are a couple things to try:

    1. You can download older versions of our plugins by logging into your account and navigating here: https://theeventscalendar.com/my-account/downloads/

    2. https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/k/configuring-the-events-calendar-with-constants/#tribe_bypass_single_event

    I hope this helps!

@highprrrr I just updated the plugin to the latest version and received the message that in August we’ll be forced to “Use updated calendar designs” which do NOT integrate with the avada theme well at all. I’ve spent a couple hours already trying to fix things. Should I hold off as there will be another release soon?

@highprrrr many thanks. I don’t have a subscription so couldn’t access the download of the previous version but the edit to the wp-config.php file worked just fine.

@lauramartin can you try the second solution I shared above and let me know how it looks with the Avada theme using the updated calendar view?

I must say, I’m beyond disappointed as well. I have the avada theme, and your plugin was recommended. It had none of the styles from my theme. I’m shocked.

I do not know any CSS so I am not understanding what to do here. I am looking for alternatives (other plugins, not yours). I cannot believe avada was recommending this, but now I am understanding it is a bug. Is that correct?

How am I to make this look good on my site? I am designing for a client and they will freak out when they see how awful the events look.

I am not a paid user, I just started using your plugin today. After this experience, I don’t want to buy a pro version.

Did this plugin use to inherit the theme styles? I would be very happy if that were the case and that this is just a bug that you are working on. I have to launch the site in the first week of May. Otherwise, I will ask Avada support (I’ve worked exclusively with Avada the past 3 years) to see if they can help or recommend another plugin.

    Thank you!

BTW, thought I’d share a few links so you can see how it looks…

compare to Avada’s demo (probably using the previous plugin)

    Compare to avada:

Would really appreciate it if you can let us know if there will be another release soon? Or can you guys revert back so your users can get this to work with avada?

    Thanks

Wow, glad I found this thread. I spend time time with custom styling to the Single event page, and then realized a recent update somehow wiped it out. Not sure how or why. But I don’t see it being mentioned in the changelog. How come?

For now, I’ve added add_filter( 'tribe_events_single_view_v2_is_enabled', '__return_false' ) … but how long will that be supported for? I can’t have a future update taking my styling away again.

Thanks @joh that fixed it for me too, was having the same problems.

The Updated Calendar views are a total disaster. Why couldn’t you just leave it alone? It was working.

Now, none of the shortcodes work with the Updated Calendar views (v5.7.0). we were using those in DIVI so that we can use a custom global section as the footer, which we cannot do with the default /events/ calendar view.

The shorecodes need to be fixed and stable BEFORE you kill off the legacy views (currently scheduled to happen August 3rd.)

The pro version of the plugin costs too much for this to be a constant issue.

    @mputman007 Hi there!

All the shortcodes work fine with TEC/ECP 5.7.0. If you’re experiencing an issue then there’s something specific happening to your installation and we can troubleshoot that.

If you have Events Calendar Pro I recommend utilizing our premium support at theeventscalendar.com/support.

    Hi all!

I know it can be frustrating when things change, especially when things were “working just fine”.

But you gotta update your stuff at some point, right? We have been utilizing those old styles for several years, we’ve been long overdue for a more modern, fresh styling.

That being said we do understand how frustrating such changes can be. As an FYI the older legacy views will continue to work even past the August cut off date, however we will no longer support it. Meaning when people have issues with legacy views (V1) our response will be “I’m sorry but we don’t support legacy views”. But nothing is going to be disabled, so you should have more time to update any custom CSS you’ve added to work with the new views (V2).
