• Is there any way to over ride the profiles in WordPress? I was previously the Administrator but my ex who, before we broke up, helped me to change some of the things on my blog which I’ve had for about 5 years. I had made my then boyfriend the admin of the blog to make the changes… cos.. you know.. we were together for 5 years and thought he wouldn’t do something stupid. :-/

    However, after we broke up, it seems like he hit back at my blog, removed me as an Administrator to Author profile (I think — I can’t view the settings or anything) and changed the blog email address to something that does not belong to me.

    Is there any way to over ride this so I can claim my blog back? Fortunately CPanel access hasn’t been affected. Can I import the stuff on the blog then import it back? Is there any solution or do I have to forego 5 years worth of blogging and start from scratch?

  • Using Phpmyadmin (or another MySQL management tool), first backup your database. Then navigate to your wp_usermeta table and locate the meta_key called “wp_capabilities” for your user_id. Change the meta-value for this record to:

    a:1:{s:13:"administrator";b:1;}

    In my CPanel, I can back up the database. Would this be the same? I’ve never done SQL before so I’m not sure. If it is, can I just get the hosting to back it up then download the backup to my computer?
