• I just noticed my templates are including two massive jQuery files, the contents of which are mostly comments! Is this normal and—if so—why are there like 50kb of comments that have to be downloaded on every page?

  • You don’t mention the theme, nor provide a working link, so I will take an unprecedented leap into the vast unknown and focus my cognitive abilities on your remote location….. eyes closed, arms outstretched, hands palms up, (begins personal mantra.) sshhh… here goes…

ohm… ohmmm… ohmmm… ohm’s law states that current in a resistance varies in direct proportion to voltage applied and inversely proportional to resistance…

Sorry. I’m just being a goof!

    ??

Seriously, though you wouldn’t happen to be using the Fusion theme, would you?

JavaScript get cached in the browser, so it doesn’t have to load every time.

The reason I ask is because in the options for the Fusion theme, you will find a tick box to disable jquery and the following statement from the author:

Disable jQuery and the associated code

“This will reduce the page load with ~70 KB, but will also disable some features and effects (layout controls, rss links inside category menu, comment tabs, trackbacks).
You shouldn’t change this unless you have problems with your host regarding bandwidth”

    The similarities between that and the OP’s statement;

“…jQuery files, the contents of which are mostly comments! …there like 50kb of comments that have to be downloaded on every page…”

…made me suspect perhaps there had been an encounter with this issue.

WordPress uses the jQuery minimized version, which is only 30K and has no comments in it. So if the theme is loading it’s own jQuery instead, than that theme should be updated.

    ClaytonJames—you’re being a jerk, not a goof.

The theme I’m using is an edited version of the default theme, and I didn’t add any jQuery includes.

My site is not currently public, so I can’t provide a link, however my question was if this was normal/typical—i.e. on a typical install.

Oddly, the includes have disappeared since I last looked. I must have switched something without realizing it, so I’ll look into it. Sorry about the confusion. I’ll check back if the issue reappears.

If you say so… It was all good-natured, I assure, you.

The theme I’m using is an edited version of the default theme, and I didn’t add any jQuery includes.

That’s more like it. Some solid detail in your description.

People can’t usually answer questions based on facts not in evidence, (most won’t even try) however based on the recent experience I had with the above mentioned theme, and taking note of the similarities, I thought I would take a humorous approach to taking a “shot in the dark” while attempting to elicit more precise information from you. We are, after all (well,at least not me), not actually psychic. If my genuine attempt to help you out while injecting humor into the act of taking a wild ass guess at your problem offended you… Well, Meh… It’s the least amount of discomfort I will have endured this decade. (Now, I’m being a jerk, by the way).

But I’m glad you got it working. It know it can be a real pain in the butt trying to chase down “ghost” symptoms that only appear whenever they feel like it.

    Good luck and best wishes!
