    Hi there,
I am looking at buying the pro license. Before I do, I have a question.

We have around 25,000 users and 25,000 documents.

Each document needs to be set to be only accessible to its respective user. And, vice versa, each user needs to only see and have access to the document(s) related to them.

Does DMS provide any way to configure permissions for this? For instance, can I set up the permissions linking each user with his/her document(s) in a CSV file and import that data? Or is there some other way of going about it, other than manually and one-by-one setting the permissions on a per file basis?

    Thanks…

    Jonathan

    Hello,

With DMS Pro, administrators can set folder permissions and force those permissions to be applied to every sub-folder and sub-document within the folder.

Hi Brian. Thanks for the reply.
I can see my question was not sufficiently clear.
What I would like to know is if there is a way I can import 25,000 files, and the permission data that links each file with a respective user?
It’s not feasible to go through them on a file by file basis, setting each to be accessible to a specific user. Ideally, the permissions is something one can allocate to each file via a data field in a CSV import file. So that the owner of each document (i.e. the person who has the right to view it) is imported along with everything is.
    Is that doable?

    Cheers,

    Hello,

How are the files stored now? Importing the files isn’t a problem. Importing the permissions would take custom development. It is possible, of course. But it would take some time to write and test such a document importing system.

    Hi Brian,
The files are currently offline. They’ll be uploaded to a folder, accordingly.

For now, I am hoping to find a way that doesn’t require custom coding in order to avoid the expense and time required for that. I’ll get back to you if I don’t find a solution.

    Hi Brian,

As a follow-up to this enquiry, I wish to confirm I’ve understood you correctly.

I don’t need an automated import system. I can upload the documents to a folder manually. I can also import CSV data into the database manually.

So what this would depend on is how simple (or complex) the DMS table structure is, specifically the way in which file data and permissions are stored.

Can you send me a sample of the DB structure?

    Hello,

I am not sure I understand your question exactly. You can download, install, and examine the database structure of the DMS plugin for free. I would basically be sending you the same thing.

    Best Regards,

    Brian
