Masking the blog construction while putting the forum out first?

  • I have a site which I would like to set up both a forum and blog.

    I intend to set up the forum first using bbPress.

    Subsequently I want to add in the blog.

    I’d like to ask for some opinions:

    Should I put the bbPress forums under a subdomain or subdirectory?

    Whether I put the forum under subdomain or subdirectory, how do I put it as the default page in the meantime?
    Like if I go to https://www.xyzdomain.com it will go straight to https://www.xyzdomain.com/forums or https://www.forums.xyzdomain.com

    While I work on the blog, before its ready, I want to keep it hidden from public eyes.
    How do I make it the main page i.e. at https://www.xyzdomain.com without it being shown while its still in construction, and when its ready, I can unveil it easily?
