Marking a comment as spam or just deleting it, what’s the difference?

  • Hey guys,

    I have it set up to moderate comments before their posted. If I mark them as spam, what happens? Does that email or user get banned? Is there a list of banned emails?

    Is there any difference in just deleting a comment, then marking it as spam?

  • If you mark it as spam, then the behavior of the spam comment associated with the IP address will be recorded by Akismet. Then the same comment is most likely to go straight to the basket under Akismet Spam rather than Awaiting Moderation if other Akismet users receive it.

    If you choose delete, then the behavior of the spam comment won’t be recorded.
