marketpress v3 totally destroyed my store
-
Since the upgrade has totally destroyed my store because of missing product categories and a failed database update process and no way to add categories, I am contacting my attorney about business losses.
Further wpmu has fixed the contact so non members can not get to support at all. This is not a smart business move as it will PO a your non members using your plugin from the respository. Either make up your mind to have a free plugin or get out of the free plugin business.

Hey there.
Sorry to hear about your experience, can I check first, how did the upgrade go in your sandbox environment?
I guess it’s working there if you decided to take this to a production site. We’d need to figure out what the difference between your sandbox and live site is to see what went wrong.
In the meantime, can you please revert your site using one of your regular and latest backups?
That will get you sorted in the interim period whilst we investigate this matter with you.

Erm… all free support goes through www.remarpro.com, that’s what these free support forums are for. If you’re needing premium support then, of course, you need to be a paid member and I guess it’s that form which you refer to on our website considering you managed to open three free tickets on this site. We’re not legally obliged to provide support, but we still do through these forums for our free products.
I’ll have our support follow up on your other two tickets shortly. ??

There was no notice I had to do a sandbox so I updated on my live store. All the past updates worked fine and I expected this one to work also shame on me and every other person who relies on past performance. And no Timothy it is not working ok. I reinstalled marketpress from a year ago to gat a working store again.
actually I believe wordpress and automatic require support if you offer a free plugin
Hey again.

We do out utmost to provide a smooth transition and upgrade, sadly sometimes things don’t always go perfectly for everyone, so many environments to host on, so many potential conflicts with third-party code, etc, and that’s where responsible web development comes in to help catch issues first. I’m not trying to deflect here, if we have an issue that needs fixing, that’s still on us to fix and we’ll do that. But when developing a website you should be taking certain precautions, especially if your site is your primary source of income.
I totally understand if you’re new to web development and managing a site, there is a lot to learn and that’s where this community really does shine. This community isn’t just made up of companies like us, it’s got some incredibly awesome people donating their time freely to help others. Feel free to pop open some questions on how others manage their staging/sandbox areas, I know there will be plenty happy to give their two cents ??
Here are a couple of our articles which I hope will help to avoid such issues in the future:

Unless you’re referring to WordPress.com then no, they don’t, they don’t require anyone to offer free or premium support. We offer both, free on here and premium directly through our company. FYI, WordPress.com and Automattic, whilst a huge part of WordPress, they are a separate entity and not to be confused with WordPress.org.
They do of course contribute to the open source version of WordPress as do many individuals and companies ??
Cheers.

on my sandbox I still can’t get the product links to reset even after a permalink update. Nothing but 404 errors
What would have been most helpful would be a notice on the install wizard or the update interface that the menus found via the shop cart icon ie product categories and such were move to the general dashboard settings area and to use a different icon than the WP general setting icon. I am used to looking for all the settings under the shop cart icon and do not see a reason that the menus should have been made harder to find. I also have been developing websites since 1996 and WP since 2007 so am not a newbie at this.
I would like to see the menus for marketpress in one place where it is logical to find them.

Hello there @flyfisher842,
Please let me know, are all Store pages created on your site? Navigate to Store Settings > Presentation, scroll down to Store Pages, make sure that the Product list has a page assigned:
If it is assigned, please edit the page and check if the
[mp_list_products]
is added inside. If this will not work, would you please create a new page and add
[mp_list_products]
there and see if it is showing the products list.Let me know how it went!
Kind regards,
Nastiawhy doesn’t the update use the old marketpress free plugin store, checkout and cart pages instead of requiring new ones
why won’t the products list show as a grid with the images the way I had the old version set to show. Images sell products initially not words.
I have saved the products presentation as a grid. and the products in my sandbox all have images.
I have over 6 hours in what should have been about a 30 minute upgrade working to get this upgrade working instead of doing something fun.
Hello @flyfisher842, hope you’re doing well!
I’ve tested the upgrade proccess on my site and the product list remained as a grid. This issue must be specific to your site’s setup.
Please accept our cenciere applogies for the inconviniece this has caused.
If you have any further issues, please let us know so we could check this out.
Kind regards,
Nastiatest it with the clean retina theme please and see if that causes the problem. Clean retina was not a problem with the old version. I have had two sites one production and one test bed do the same thing after conversion.
What theme were you using on your test?
Hi @flyfisher842,
Can you test with default WP themes and let us know of the results on your other thread so we can keep better track of this:
