• I had a map embedded, working fine. Since I got my API key that was required, I can not get the plug in to show my address on a map.
I have deactivated and re activated.
This is what I get: Sorry. We can not plot this address. A map will not be displayed. Is the address formatted correctly?
I have tried using different formats, and even a different address, but nothing seems to change that error.
Please advise, as this used to work great, and we loved it!

    Jetpack Mechanic ??

it would be useful to be able to put in a separate address/postcode for the Google map, to allow us to move the location of the pin, without having to go through the whole process of asking Google to do it.

Do you mean that the pin placed by Google doesn’t match the location of your business? If so, it might be best to go through Google to change that, if you want the correct location to be available everywhere, and not just on your site’s widget.

The address I’m looking to display has multiple entrances. On this occasion I’d like to use the rear entrance.

Just an idea, as I can think of a number of similar scenarios, (e.g. Different postal & physical address,) where this might be useful.

    Thanks

Oh, I see. That makes sense. This is something we could indeed consider, but I’m not sure we’ll want to add a new field to the widget, as it could be confusing for a lot of people. We could, however, add a filter to accomodate such use cases.

I took note of your feedback, and we’ll see if we can add that in a future version of Jetpack.

    Thanks for the feedback!

    Hi guys,
It sounds like Jon Hart found a solution to the original problem.. I didn’t follow any of the lingo. Is there a simple way to walk me through that, as I still don’t have a map displayed in the widget.
    Thank you!

@andi77cip You can follow the instructions here:

    Thanks Jeremy,
I followed all directions, (thanks for the very clear step by step process!)but the map still doesn’t show.
When I am in the Google dashboard it does say that I have 3 requests and 3 errors to embed the map.

Do you see any errors when trying to display the map?

3 errors to embed the map.

Does Google give you details about those errors?

No errors at all in the widget – and when I see my webpage it has space where the map should be, but nothing is there. I did have a client tell me that they saw an ‘error’ in the space that I see the blank space.
I will leave it as is (with the show map and api code in, but blank on my screen) and maybe you can see what it displays?

Also no details about errors from Google – not helpful!

That helps. There is an error message, but it’s displayed in back and your widget area background is black, so it’s hard to see ??

The Google Maps API server rejected your request. This IP, site or mobile application is not authorized to use this API key. Request received from IP address xx.xxx.xx.xx, with referer: https://www.coreintentions.com/

It looks like your API key wasn’t configured properly. I’d recommend checking your Google API dashboard, and making sure the restriction options (“Accept requests from these HTTP referrers”) is set up properly, and allows requests on your site.

Let me know how it goes.

    A hidden error message! ??
    Thanks Jeremy.
I have tried to do that before, and didn’t have any luck verifying my domain. Of course I just tried again, and get this message:

Verification failed for https://www.coreintentions.com using the DNS TXT record method (36 days ago). We couldn’t find the verification token in your domain’s TXT records. You might need to wait a few minutes before Google sees your changes to the TXT records.

Once again, outsmarted by the lingo, I may be out of luck with the map in the widget (which is silly, as I can use the map on our contact page).

Did you have to verify your domain to use AIP key restrictions? That’s interesting, I didn’t know that was necessary.

What happens if you remove the API restrictions altogether? Does the map start working?

To try to verify your domain again, you’ll need to create a custom TXT record, as explained here. Those instructions should match your domain registrar, Bluehost, so the interface should be familiar.

    I hope this helps.

    Hi Jeremy,

I had this issue today in a new Widget. Apparently it happens when you add a restricted API key to the widget and then you modify the adress to display.

I managed to get it to work properly with the following steps:

    1. Delete the current contact info widget
    2. Create a new contact info widget
    3. Change the adress, phone number and all other info. Save your changes, map should throw API key error.
    4. Click the “Show map” button and add your API key. Save the widget. It should work normally.

It happens to me that if I change the adress after entering the API key, the adress lookout fails and the map gets disabled. Apparently there are client errors on the request, since Google’s console reports 100% error rate for the Google Maps Geocoding API when using a custom API key. Only info there is that the HTTP errors are 4XX related.

Hope this helps someone or to troubleshoot the issue!

@letsan Thanks for sharing your experience!

I also am running the Sydney Theme, with a Child Theme set up. I emailed details of these same initial problems as a reply to my welcome email from JetPack on January 6, but have not received any response (The bottom of each email from JetPack states that you can simply reply to get support). Since then, I have continued to investigate API keys. I was even able to get maps to appear on my event pages, so I know my API key is working and necessary APIs are enabled. However, I still have had no luck with this JetPack contact widget on the left side of my footer on https://www.stantononline.com after trying everything on the JetPack support page for the contact widget and all of the advice given above in this thread precisely. I am experiencing all of the same things everyone else described, including the error “Sorry. We can not plot this address. A map will not be displayed. Is the address formatted correctly?” in the widget settings and the errors in the Google Console Geocoding API – client errors (4xx). It is really too bad, because this nice little contact form is one of the things I really liked on my other wordpress.com sites and I was really hoping to have it on my www.remarpro.com site. I would really like to know if there is any progress toward resolving this issue or if I should just move on and find another method of putting a map and contact info in my footer.
