  • I too am curious about this…

I have a wild card cert for my WP network (which is where the admins would log in) so thats HTTPS but then I would like the mapped domain that normal users go to be HTTP…

Maybe this would be easy with using a 301 redirect from http to https for the admin?

    Thanks

It seems this works out of the box with the subdomains…

But when I map the domains… If I click the admin bar to go see the site it takes me there but if I click the admin bar to come back my browser goes crazy with https security warnings and I have to get to the backed through the login again…

I am using the force SSL function in wp config file…

Thanks (work around I am using for now is to use two browsers… one that has the front end of the site and the other that has the backend https that way I can make a change on the back and see how it looks on the front… Would be really nice to just click the top tab tho ??

    Thanks for any help…

    Hi Action Turtle,

thank you for the update; I’m hoping the developer will give input on this.

Will there be an eventual “official” support for both mixed HTTPS and HTTP?

Eventually domain mapping is going to be rolled into core.

    Hello Ron Rennick,

thank you for the input; in light of this, is there a work-a-round?

Oh Happy Days!!! It makes so much sense and will probably solve everyone problems

Any idea when this might be?

As for now I can’t get a clear answer on this… Does google index the mapped domain or my subdomain? Like its a deal breaker if the URL under the google results is my subdomain… I want to make sure its the mapped domain…

This seems very important for SEO especially as we move into domain mapping being done in core wp… That way none of my sites loose rank even though I am changing backed end stuff…

    Thanks!

@mbay – I listed a work around… Just use two browsers and you won’t evoke the https problem…

@action Turtle – great question about SEO! I too would be interested to know.

Thank You in regards to the work-a-round; I did see that when I read your post earlier – I appreciated the inpt! – although I would, as you said, hope to be able to click on the top tab. Hopefully this will be possible in the short term!
