Mapping Dropdown options

I’m having trouble mapping drop down options into Sales Force for a custom field – products.
The id is populated within the admin field label (is this correct?) and mapped to the correct field in SF, then the drop down items are the same names as within sales force.
The form goes into Sales Force fine, but completely ignores the drop down item.
That may not all makes sense, but has anyone had any issues with dropdowns?
