Resolved. I found this video tutorial by Dustin Salmons on YouTube.

    Hello,
On shared hosting, I have installed Wp4.6.1 MU in public_html/wp, ceated my sites and all content. The admin user account is Super Admin.

The domain mapping plugin says it is only compatible up to 4.7.
I installed it, followed configuration instructions. Tried to log back into the wp Admin panel and received the error: The domain maping plugin only works if the site is installed in /.

I could not get back into the wp Admin panel, so I deleted files from the wp domain mapping folder.

I still need to map the sites to their own domain names.
And I am being prompted to upgrade to wp 4.7

Can anyone please advise, or assist how to accomplish mapping the sites to their own domain names?
