Been using WF for years on other websites with no warnings like this. I set up another site on a different host and getting over 100 errors in wp-includes/ directory. Here are a few files, This site is up only a week and I am getting spammed like crazy via email. I think it is from domain lookup…

    wp-includes/js/tinymce/themes/inlite/php.ini
    wp-includes/js/tinymce/skins/wordpress/php.ini
    wp-includes/rest-api/php.ini

A few of many and curious if this came with server issue?

I called hosting to ask about these files and I stated they are not default WP files. I went up two levels of support and honestly got ridiculous answers. I think they where trying to tell me they are needed to call options form there dashboard (not sure) but they never asked me what the names files where ??

    Hi,
I’m pretty sure you mean that the scan result contains around 100 issue labeled with “Unknown file in WordPress core” and all of them are referencing “php.ini” files, is that correct?

If so, then we have seen this issue before with certain web hosts (may I know the name of your hosting provider?) where host’s support staff or a host’s control panel may place “php.ini” files in every subdirectory of WordPress’s core files, most likely to change PHP settings throughout the site.

What is recommended in this case is to review contents of some of these files to make sure they are safe. We can help if you’re not sure whether the files are safe or not. Feel free to share with me some of these files via “alaa [at] wordfence [dot] com”. Once you are sure they are safe, you can use the “ignore all new issues” link at the top of the scan results list to ignore all of these files. You may need to resolve other scan results that you do not want to ignore, first.

For further details about this issue along with suggestions you could send to your hosting provider, please check the bottom of this page.

    Thanks.

    1 and 1

TY so much for you time and response. I do find it strange why they would do this. I can tell you one thing I am getting tons of spam from multi businesses like SEO, webdesign eg… Not sure if that is coming from domain name lookup or these files. I’ll try to figure this out and keep your addy in mind for some input on files. I also look at the file and suggestion to tell 1 & 1 ??

There response was; to change PHP settings throughout the site
