We’ve been using Page Cache over Memcached for a long time and haven’t seen the creation of cache files in the page_enhanced folder…

    But they paid attention to:
    _old added to cached pages…
    old estension and duration

We switched to Disk: Enhanced caching and noticed that we also have a lot of _index_ssl.html_old files

    Our verification steps:
    Deactivated W3 Total Cache.
Installed one by one several caching plugins.
On all new plugins, the _index_ssl.html file (working) is saved for several hours.

We don’t want to give up the W3 Total Cache plugin, because have been using it for over 5 years and using Memcached.

I ask you not to rush to answer, but to more closely check Page Cache caching in the laboratory.

    Thank you for understanding.

    Hello @irinashl

    Thanks for reaching out.
Note of my answers are rushed and I make sure to double-check everything before answering to make sure that I provide the most accurate answer to the users.
You mentioned the two topics. As you can see in those topics, the answer is the same. I’ve double-checked the behavior of the Disk: Enhanced.
The _old files are created when the cache is purged.
It’s fine to have _old files. If you always have only _old files – that’s a sign something purges cache all the time. like theme or some plugin.
So for example, if you check this topic, You can see that the Rankmath plugin was causing the purge of the cache.
    Thanks!

Thank you so much for your prompt reply!
We have Yoast SEO and Fast Velocity Minify – we have been using them for many years.

Let’s try to disable Fast Velocity Minify for a few days.
Or are we looking for a problem that doesn’t exist.

    What do you advise?
    Thank you!

    Hello @irinashl

    Thank you for your reply.
There are a lot of things that can trigger this. The page is cached once visited and the Disk: Enhanced serves cached pages using the server’s URL rewriting capabilities, skipping PHP and WordPress entirely.
When you have only the _old file, this means that the cache is purged, and the page was not visited again. The Cache Preload would help in this case to always have a fresh cache.
I hope this explains the _old files better.
    Thanks!

    Marko,
Thank you very much for your attention to my question!
A simple question is how to increase the life of Page Cache to 86400 sec.?

    Thank you!

    Hello @irinashl

    You are most welcome!

The life of the cached file is permanent until the cache is purged. The TTL of the Page Cache (the Browser Cached page) can be changed in Perfomrance>Browser Cache>HTML&XML section “Expires header lifetime” which determines how long the page will be cached for the user before fetching the page again (does not depend if the page was cached again or not)
    I hope this helps!
    Thanks!

    Marko,
Sorry again for the trouble, I just don’t feel comfortable.

    Probably we had an error:
Performance> Page Cache. “Never cache the following pages“
    It was:

    [a-z0-9_\-]*sitemap[a-z0-9_\-]*\.(xml|xsl|html)(\.gz)?
    ([a-z0-9_\-]*?)sitemap([a-z0-9_\-]*)?\.xml

    it is necessary:

    sitemap(_index)?\.xml(\.gz)?
    [a-z0-9_\-]*sitemap[a-z0-9_\-]*\.(xml|xsl|html)(\.gz)?
    ([a-z0-9_\-]*)?\.xml

    Thank you!

    Marko,
By the way, we found the reason for clearing the entire Page Cache.
This is a Yoast SEO plugin.

This morning we switched to Rank Math SEO and for several hours now ALL _index_phones_ssl.html pages are in the “cache” folder.

    Marko You are the best!
I wish you good luck and strong health!
