• Hi there-

I was forced to do a manual update of a site today because the server was short on memory, which was eventually increased.

Anyway I followed the Codex to the letter, replacing all the correct files. The home page came back to life, but when one clicks on a page link, or when I try to log in through wp-admin, I get a “Not Available” error message. All the external links work but not the internal ones.

At the end of my rope now, wondering if you have a solution.

    Thanks very much.
    Mari

  • The first thing to do is to reset your .htaccess file by resetting your permalinks. That’s normally the cause of the error your describing.

Go to ‘Settings -> Permalinks’, take note of what the setting is now for your permalinks, then change it to any other value and save, and then chagne it back to the first value and save again. That will regenerage the file and reset teh links for you, and everything should work after that.

Hey thanks very much for that.

I actually was not able to log into the dashboard and do that so what I did was replace the .htaccess file. And it worked.

    Thanks!
