Manual soft hyphens in paragraph block

I am trying to use manual soft hyphens with the
­special character in paragraph blocks in the editor.
Inserting them in visual mode renders­simply as text on frontend (ok, expected behaviour). But entering them in html mode *magically* hides the character right after entering it. It seems like the editor is directly “applying” the entity even when in html mode. This is especially problematic as a soft hyphen is an invisible character, leaving you with no indicator that it has been placed. I just checked and the behaviour is different for other entities (such as&) – it gets preserved as is in html mode.
Still the soft hyphens seems to work on frontend.
Is there any possibility to preserve the entity as a visual­in html mode to preserve its editability?Help or ideas much appreciated.
