Manual rename in media uploader

Just purchased PRO version but was under the impression I could manually rename the file from the media uploader (within a post, page, etc).

That’s way too dangerous. Imagine: you rename the name of the file within a post. But you are inside that post, and the editor is also opened, containing the link to this file already. How that filename can be updated in the editor? That’s technically impossible, or a huge amount of tricks would be necessary (and that will break/fail often anyway). There is an option “Rename on Save” that actually does something like that (the file is renamed when the post is saved), but I don’t even recommend it.

The only “good” alternative would be to have a new column and field directly in the list of the media files. That’s doable but I am not sure why, nobody asked for it ??

I appreciate you getting back to me.
Totally understand your feedback. Not really thought that far.
My user case was very different the usual flow.
I have some custom functionality in which users can upload documents via the media library (thats all) and then within that cpt the admin can select them and insert in post. They required the ability to rename the file as they did this.
If this renaming was inside the media uploader it would have been perfect for this.
