• Hello,

Wondering if there is ability to “manage versions” and replace existing files in the media library with new ones, without having to upload a new files and create a redirect to a new url? Like to be able to more efficiently use the media library as a content management system and it seems to be lacking this ability. Can you please tell me how to do this? Or, if this is a future development we can look forward to?

  • Hi @amavida

It is possible to manage versions of media files in WordPress and replace existing files in the media library with new versions without having to upload new files or create redirects. You can do this by using the plugin “Enable Media Replace.” This plugin allows you to replace an existing file in the media library with a new version by uploading a new file and matching it to the media item you want to replace.

To use the plugin, you will need to install and activate it on your WordPress site. Once activated, you can access it by going to the “Media” section of your WordPress dashboard and clicking on the media item you want to replace. You will see a new “Replace Media” button on the media item’s page. When you click on this button, you can select a new file from your computer and upload it to replace the existing media item.

Please note that the plugin only works for replacing media items that are “attached” to a post or page. If you want to replace a media item that is not attached to a post or page, you will need to first attach it to a post or page and then use the plugin to replace it.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.
