manage widget visibility from static page instead of Appearance > Widget

This page has two columns with a widget area in the left hand column. The widgets on this page are displayed using the widget visibility setting to display only on a specific static page. This setting Is applied on the Widgets dashboard under Appearance.

Is there a way, for example, to set a widget to a static page from the page itself?

I imagine a widget selection box below the main content area on the editing screen of a single page in the WP admin dashboard. Allowing me to select widgets to show with a default setting of visibility set to this page only.

The reason i want to do this is because the theme i am trying to build is intended to be used by many authors and so to create a smooth user experience it would be more efficient if authors could add extra content to the left hand column while writing the main content that sits in the right hand column.

Perhaps i am going the wrong way about this, but using widgets to display specific content on specific pages by using visibility settings seems like a good way to be able to edit single pages within on screen in the WP Admin screen.

Any advice on how to do this with the jetpack plugin or otherwise would be much appreciated.
