  • Re: menu suggestions – the WP menu is actually pretty good IMO. Which leads me to wonder how many items she’s including.

    Hi lorax,

In itself the menu manager is very user friendly. But once you’re putting say over 20 items it gets hard to add new items in the right place. It would be very convenient if one could collapse menu parts one is not working on. This has been suggested in the ideas forum too.

As to how many items, I’m not sure but it might be well over 50. It is a growing website where new (sub) categories will be added.

    Best, d.

    Whoa.

<podiumspeech=on>While you CAN have everything in the menu, it is NOT user friendly. General rule of thumb is to have no more than 5 major nav items. If you need more, consider another, secondary, menu located some distance away from the primary.

Likewise, for pull downs, they shouldn’t have more than 5-7 items either – if you can help it. IF you need a few more once or twice – it should be fine. But if every pull down has 8 or more links in it then it’s too much. Divide and conquer.</podiumspeech=off>
